Do you feel joy and energy
when you walk through your front door? In many cases, we feel
that our home needs to be redesigned or redecorated to give it
the feel we are looking for. Sometimes, it is just the amount
of "stuff" we have that overwhelms us.
When you walk through the front door after a
long, stressful day at the office, do you just drop everything
at the door, kick off your shoes, and fall into the nearest
chair that does not have newspapers or magazines on it? When
you look around the room, do you feel energy draining from your
body rather than feeling relaxed?
If you do, it may be because of clutter. When
people come to visit, do you have to take the time to hide
everything because there is not really a place for it? No one
really wants to have company when the house is messy.
Deciding to organize your home and have a
proper storage place for everything is a great idea. It is
also a challenge. Your home may be an apartment or a
two-story house. When you walk through each room, you will
feel overwhelmed with the task. The best way to tackle a
home organization project is room-by-room.
If you live alone, home organization will take
you longer to complete. Make a commitment to work on a room at
least 2 days each week. If you have a family, enlist their aid
in organizing the house. Sit down together and work out a plan.
For the family living areas, each person can chip in and
express their ideas. Let the children have a say. They will
want to help more if they feel their ideas are being
considered. Each person should be responsible for their own
room. Set a schedule and stick to it.
After you have removed unneeded and unwanted
items from the house, you may still think a new coat of paint
or a new sofa will make a difference in the way you feel. If it
is in your budget, by all means treat yourself.
When the entire family is involved in a home
organization project, it brings them closer together. It makes
each of them feel responsible about the way the house
looks.
